The Australasian Grebe is a small waterbird and is common on freshwater lakes and rivers. It is one of the smallest members of the Grebe Family. It feeds on fish, crustaceans and insects.
The Australasian Grebe is an excellent swimmer and diver. It will almost always immediately dive under water when startled and then swims to safety underwater.
